Last night Bret and I had the opportunity to see a pre-showing of Emma Smith:My Story. I hope that everyone takes an opportunity to see this movie, especially if you don't have a very high opinion of Emma Smith.
This movie came to be when Joseph's family felt like Emma's story should be told. One experience Gracia Jones (the first Joseph Smith descendant to join the church) told was walking into Relief Society where a picture of Emma Smith was displayed and having someone comment that they didn't feel it was right that a picture of Emma Smith should hang in the church. She said "she wanted her Grandmothers story to be told."
The movie was wonderful and had an incredible spirit. The same actors are in this movie as in the Joseph Smith movie shown at the JSMB.
Emma had incredible strength, strength which sustained her through so many trials. Her parents never supported her beliefs, she was having to move from place to place, she lost more children then I would be able to bare, and of course, she lost the husband that she loved and who loved her. But through it all she supported and sustained Joseph and I believe the church(maybe not polygamy, but pretty much everything else). In the movie it shows how Joseph would always bring his revelations to her and ask her to read them first, Joseph really valued her opinion. I was grateful to learn a few things about Emma that I hadn't heard before (you'll have to watch the movie and find those things out for yourself).
It was a good evening. On a side note, they asked for the direct descendants of Joseph Smith to stand up, and 10 people stood up, they had come from all across the country...Joseph Smith descendants only number about 2,000 compared to Hyrums descendants which number around 20,000. The movie comes out Friday and is playing at the Jordan Commons.

I stumbled onto your blog and had to post a comment. A group of gals from "Our Hood" saw the Emma movie on Friday night, and we all loved it. I felt the spirit very strong. I learned alot of new things, had many questions answered, and had many more new questions yet to be answered. I would recommend this movie to everyone! My family is descendents through Joseph and Hyrum, (Hyrum being a grandfather, and Joseph an uncle). I feel fortunate to learn so much from them, and feel the true Spirit of this gospel.
I LOVED the movie! I can't even imagine the trials. Emma was such a strong woman, I gained an even greater respect for her.
I know on my blog I talk about it,and posted AFTER but it did not COPY YOU!!!!!!!!!
